European Commission responds to European Newspaper Publishers' Association concerns.
EC agrees to amend Generation Awake campaign message to correct "misleading" language.
Submitted by: Vince Collins 17/7/2012
The European Newspaper Publishers' Association (ENPA) recently complained to the cabinet of EU Environment Commissioner, Janez Potocnik, concerning the negative language about print newspapers in their environmental campaign, Generation Awake. This campaign calls on consumers to think twice before picking up a print newspaper, because they probably won’t have the time to read it all. The relevant text also mixed up newspapers and the unsolicited advertising that people receive in their mailboxes. ENPA are happy to report that, in response to their complaint, the European Commission has acknowledged that the campaign language could be “misleading” and has undertaken to remove the relevant chapter from all 23 language versions of the “Generation Awake” campaign website. The next time the website is updated, a new chapter will be uploaded in place of the current one.
