It’s not exactly mind reading, but what if touching a business card could instantly pull up that person’s information on your smartphone?
Swedish company Ericsson has come up with a prototype called Connected Paper that allows the act of touching a card, package or label to send a signal through your body straight to your phone, CNET reported. The paper is printed with circuitry and uses “capacitive coupling” technology, which connects that circuitry to the smartphone in your hand. According to Ericsson, the application can be used for medicine, health products, clothing, automobiles, media and toys. The product is still a concept as the receiver still needs to be shrunk down, while commercial deployment of 5G networks would also help this technology take flight.
